About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh is seeking caring, energetic individuals to work with children ages 5-12 at their Before & After School program at one or more schools in North Pittsburgh. As a Childcare Counselor, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can learn, play, build friendships, and have fun. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling, fitting around other commitments. Counselors play a vital role in making the hours before and after school some of the best parts of a child’s day.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age
• High School Diploma/GED
• 2,500 hours of verifiable experience working directly with school age youth or An Associates or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field.
• Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities.
• Reliable transportation to arrive at work location at scheduled time
• Must complete a health physical and TB test
• 3 letters of Reference needed upon hiring
• Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter.
• Mandated Reporter Certification within 45 days of hire (paid training)
• Completion of health/TB screening and 10 hours of DHS training within 30 days (paid)
• Complete CPR, Pediatric First Aid training within the first 90 days of hire. (paid)

Responsibilities

• Providing active supervision and ensuring the safety of children
• Helping children with homework and other academic activities
• Leading games, crafts, activities, and age-appropriate curriculum
• Building positive relationships with children and families
• Communicating with parents and guardians
• Working as part of a team to create an exceptional program experience
• Being a positive role model and encouraging children to try new things
