About The Position

The School Age Childcare - Before and After School Staff is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for school age children before and after school. The staff supervises play, ensures children's safety, and promotes positive social interactions in accordance with program licensing. This is an active and engaging role, where staff will lead, engage, and support daily curriculum. This program is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Staff will need to undergo fingerprinting, background checks, TB testing, and provide medical history within the last 2 years. Staff will also need to complete a 5-hour Health and Safety training prior to the start of work in the classroom and then complete 15 hours of training in required topic areas within the first six months of employment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent requested.
• Experience in child care, babysitting, or early childhood education preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• Friendly, patient, and attentive with strong communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple children with varying needs and energy levels.
• Reliable, punctual, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• Anyone not holding a high school diploma or equivalent or under 18 will be need to work with other staff and not be left alone at any time with children until that staff member's 18th birthday.

Responsibilities

• Actively monitor and care for school age children.
• Maintain a clean, secure, and child-friendly environment.
• Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Support the program by helping to develop, plan and implement daily lesson plans and activities.
• Organize and lead age-appropriate activities such as games, arts and crafts, activities, story time, and free play.
• Provide active supervision in special areas to include but not limited to swimming, ice skating, gymnasium activities, outdoor and playground play.
• Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere among children.
• Provide comfort and basic care for children as needed.
• Greet parents/guardians, manage check-in and check-out procedures.
• Communicate any concerns, behavioral issues, or incidents promptly and professionally.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other staff to support child care program standards.
• Sanitize toys, equipment, and play areas regularly in compliance with health standards.
• Monitor supply inventory and inform supervisor of needs.
• Follow all facility policies, licensing regulations, and COVID-19 safety protocols if applicable.
