About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant Site Director for our Before and After School Programs at Marian E. McKeown Elementary School in Newton, NJ. This part-time, non-exempt position follows the school calendar and offers opportunities for morning (7:00 - 8:15 am), afternoon (3:00 - 6:00 pm), or both programs. The ideal candidate loves working with children, brings energy, kindness, and patience, and enjoys encouraging children's curiosity, creativity, and confidence. They should also work well with teammates and communicate effectively with families, being reliable, organized, and committed to providing exceptional care. This role is well-suited for parents seeking a schedule that aligns with the school day, education majors or future teachers looking for hands-on experience, or retirees who enjoy staying active and mentoring children. The position focuses on program quality, ensuring children are engaged, safe, and having fun; staffing, ensuring the site is fully staffed and teachers are prepared and supported; compliance, ensuring the site operates in ratio and records are accurate; and inventory, ensuring the site is well-stocked with necessary supplies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or youth program setting.
  • Able to pass required background and fingerprint clearances.
  • Focus on results, not excuses.

  • Empathy, professionalism, G-rated work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or early childhood coursework preferred.
  • Some experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
  • Familiarity with before- and after-school program environments a plus.
  • Knowledge of state childcare licensing or school-age care regulations helpful but not required.
  • Calm, flexible, and resourceful in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure children are engaged, safe, and having fun every day.
  • Ensure the program reflects Healthy Kids Programs’ model and families consistently choose to re-enroll.
  • Ensure the site is fully staffed every day.
  • Ensure teachers are prepared, supported, and showing up for the kids.
  • Ensure the site operates in ratio at all times.
  • Ensure records are accurate and current.
  • Ensure the program is ready for inspection on any given day.
  • Ensure the site is well-stocked with the supplies and materials teachers need.
  • Ensure restocking happens before it becomes a problem.
