About The Position

Douglas ESD is accepting applications for At Will School Administrator Mentors in our Education Services department. The Administrator Mentor provides individualized leadership coaching and practical support to school administrators through regular in-person sessions, virtual check-ins, and consultation. Coaching will focus on each administrator's goals, current leadership responsibilities, district context, and immediate problem-solving needs.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Oregon administrative license.
  • Minimum of seven years of successful school administrator experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in school leadership, instructional leadership, school operations, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support administrators through coaching, reflection, problem solving, and goal setting without serving in an evaluative role.
  • Strong understanding of the realities and responsibilities of school and district leadership.
  • Must be able to meet during school hours and travel to the mentee's school or district as needed.
  • Ideal candidates are experienced or former administrators with the flexibility to provide consistent support throughout the school year.

  • Experience in a small, rural school district is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services over a 10-month period, with 5.5 hours per month allocated to each mentee, for a total of 55 hours per mentee.
  • Provide one 2-hour in-person coaching session each month, including observation of the administrator's leadership practice in the building.
  • Provide three 1-hour virtual check-ins each month to discuss priorities, reflect on practice, and address current needs.
  • Serve as an on-call resource for immediate problem solving, within agreed availability and the monthly service allocation.
  • Provide resources, materials, tools, protocols, and ideas aligned to the mentee's goals and district context.
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and support based on observation of leadership practice; the mentor does not evaluate the mentee.
  • Coordinate with the mentee's superintendent or supervisor for a quarterly check-in regarding progress, goals, and areas for focus, if requested.
  • Coordinate services with the Assistant Superintendent/Director of Education Services or designee.
  • Maintain a record of time worked and coordinate any additional time or changes in services with the ESD supervisor in advance.
  • Be accessible for ongoing informal support and consultation within the agreed service allocation.
  • Model best practices in educational leadership, active collaboration, confidentiality, and professional behavior.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties related to the mentor role as assigned by the ESD supervisor.
