About The Position

The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library supports the education, research, patient care, and community service missions of University of North Texas Health Fort Worth by meeting the information needs of faculty, students, staff, and the local health sciences community. This position is primarily responsible for providing tailored scholarly writing and publication support for UNT Health student, faculty and library open access initiatives. Work involves review of manuscripts for publication, copy editing for UNT Health publications, oversight, and design of selected open access materials. This position is also responsible for educational collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work in collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of sound English composition, grammar, rules of documentation, and requirements for publication.
  • Ability to edit the works of others as it pertains to citation management, citation style, and publisher formatting requirements.
  • Proficiency with publishing software or platforms, such as Adobe InDesign, Scholastica, etc.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty to accomplish objectives.
  • Functional knowledge in use of citation management tools such as EndNote, RefWorks, & Zotero.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in English, Education, or other writing intensive field.
  • Four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Understanding of APA and/or AMA citation styles.
  • Experience using citations management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Creation and shared oversight of UNT Health Open Press open access journals, currently these are only student authors. This includes designs, copy, and marketing decisions using relevant publication tools and software.
  • Provides writing and citation support to align with services at other UNT campuses, especially supporting our dual degree students.
  • Provide one-on-one and group writing support to UNT Health primarily to UNT Health students focusing on scholarly publishing and presentation skills, including manuscript preparation and editing for publication, and helping to enhance the quality and impact of their scholarly work.
  • Consults with and provides guidance to library administration on the development of open access publishing initiatives.
  • Organizes and conducts educational sessions on essential scholarly writing skills such as editing and revision of manuscripts for publication, reviewing for readability, style, content, and accuracy of documentation.
  • Regularly assess the writing support needs of students and faculty, adapting services to meet evolving demands.
  • Understanding of copyright, open licensing, fair use, author rights, archiving rights, and institutional repositories.
  • Functional knowledge in use of citation management tools such as EndNote, RefWorks, & Zotero.
