About The Position

The Scholarly Communication Librarian will contribute to the Research Support and Engagement Team by delivering an active program of education, training, advocacy, support, and information sharing to the WVU community. This role involves promoting and advancing the Research Repository @ WVU as a platform for scholarship, seeking opportunities to enhance the Libraries’ publishing capabilities, and evolving the Library publishing strategy. The librarian will collaborate with research support librarians on initiatives to support faculty and graduate students in increasing research impact. Additionally, the Scholarly Communication Librarian will develop and cultivate initiatives related to authors’ rights, copyright, and Open Access publishing.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or an international equivalent.
  • Instruction experience, preferably in libraries.
  • Demonstrated understanding of scholarly communication needs at an R1 institution.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with library and campus entities on the implementation, management, assessment, and promotion of The Research Repository @WVU.
  • Organize programs on issues related to scholarly communication for the library and the campus community.
  • Develop inclusive materials and outreach strategies.
  • Assess campus interest in open scholarship and identify opportunities to support faculty and student creation, rights, and access.
  • Create and update institutional repository procedures, policies, and other necessary documentation in collaboration with the Institutional Repository Manager and other colleagues within the University Libraries and on campus.
  • Further develop the Libraries’ publishing capabilities to include editorial processes and publishing software, especially for OER in collaboration with library and campus partners.
  • Work with campus constituents and the Institutional Repository Manager to add works and collections to the Research Repository @ WVU. This work includes checking permissions, policies, and copyright; answering constituent questions; and providing training and consultations.
  • Provide input, planning, and instruction in various aspects of scholarly communication programs and initiatives, including Open Access, copyright and Creative Commons licensing, research & publication lifecycles, and data management requirements.
  • Conduct workshops for faculty, departments, and research units on issues pertaining to scholarly communication.
  • Participate in general reference assistance through on-call and chat service as needed especially with questions pertaining to scholarly communication.
