About The Position

Surgery schedulers coordinate and manage the scheduling of surgical procedures in hospitals and healthcare facilities. They ensure that all necessary arrangements are made for patients, surgeons, and operating rooms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical office experience preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in computer software, such as electronic medical records (EMR)

Responsibilities

  • Gather and verify patient information, including medical history, insurance coverage, and pre-operative requirements
  • Obtain pre-operative authorizations from insurance companies
  • Prepare and maintain surgical schedules and documentation
  • Communicate with patients, providing them with pre-operative instructions and follow-up appointments
  • Handle cancellations and rescheduling
  • Monitor and update patient records
  • Coordinate with the operating room staff to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as billing and coding
  • Schedule surgical procedures based on patient needs, surgeon availability, and operating room capacity
  • Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
