About The Position

The Scenic Carpenter will assist the Technical Direction team in constructing, installing, and dismantling scenery for all Mainstage productions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of power tools, scenic theatrical carpentry, and theatrical rigging. As part of the Performance Services department, the Scenic Carpenter reports to the Technical Director.

Requirements

• BA in Theater or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 4 years experience in theatrical carpentry
• Proficiency in the safe operation of power tools
• Proficiency in scenic theatrical carpentry
• Proficiency in theatrical rigging
• Read and interpret construction drawings and cut lists
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge and experience with hardware and build techniques
• Proficiency in wood construction
• Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• Punctuality, dependability, and ability to work independently
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Responsibilities

• Constructing, installing, and dismantling scenery for all Mainstage productions.
• Safe operation of power tools, scenic theatrical carpentry, and theatrical rigging.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and cut lists.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Mentor student workers as applicable to the tasks at hand.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scene shop and associated workspaces.
• Participate in all load-ins, changeovers, and strikes throughout the contract period.
• Oversee overhire and student crew in relationship with the Assistant Technical Director.

Benefits

• The rate for this position is $26-$28/hour.
