About The Position

The position of Scene Shop Foreman oversees the construction of scenic elements and the installation of lighting equipment for the Department of Theatre and Dance productions. These duties are performed under the direction of the Technical Theatre faculty.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Wood (carpentry) skills
• Metal working skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with artistic staff
• Ability to supervise and work patiently with students
• Experience with power tools
• Knowledge of shop safety procedures
• Ability to perform physical labor for the duration of the shift
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to focus, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Responsibilities

• Oversee scenic construction, including painting
• Oversee lighting equipment installation
• Oversee maintenance of scene shop equipment, including inventory
• Communicate and maintain safety standards
• Work collaboratively with designers and directors
• Communicate with staff, students, and faculty
• Supervise Stagecraft Lab, work-study, and production students
• Participate in strikes for all productions
