Scene Shop Assistant
About The Position
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. The Scene Shop Assistant will be responsible for building and assembling scenery, set pieces, and platforms, as well as painting and finishing sets. They will also be involved in rigging and installing scenic elements and maintaining the shop. This position requires some demonstrated experience with basic carpentry and hand/power tools, the ability to safely operate shop equipment, and the capacity to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and working at heights. The successful candidate must be able to follow safety procedures and work under supervision. A Criminal History Background Check is required.
Requirements
- Some demonstrated experience with basic carpentry, hand and power tools (saws, drills, etc.)
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment, or willingness to be trained on it
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks — climbing ladders, kneeling, standing for extended periods, working at heights
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work under supervision of the Technical Director
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
- Must be a UND student
- Must be eligible to work in the US and complete required employment eligibility verification form
- Does not support visa sponsorship

Responsibilities
- Build and assemble scenery, set pieces, and platforms using wood, metal, and standard shop tools (saws, drills, welders, etc.)
- Paint and finish sets according to designer specs (base coats, texturing, faux finishes)
- Rig and install scenic elements for load-in
- Strike sets after productions close
- Maintain and organize the shop — tools, materials, paint area, and equipment upkeep
