About The Position

The Scale Operator is primarily responsible for weighing boxes of product, ensuring accuracy of weight, labels, and codes. This role requires the consistent use and maintenance of personal protective equipment and adherence to all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and relevant local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.

Requirements

Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours.
Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Stand up to 8 hours.
Lift up to 60 lbs.
Frequent exposure to heat (incubators are 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.
Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.).
Frequent lifting of 10-15 lbs.
Work around raw, live animal odors.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Hatchery or relative poultry industry experience.
Basic math functions and skills.

Responsibilities

Weigh loaded trailers and print a weigh ticket.
Distribute live haul trailers underneath a holding shed using a yard truck or tractor.
Bring loaded trailers around to be unloaded by a forklift.
Bring empty trailers back to scales to be weighed out to establish a tare weight.
Enter tickets in a database.
Ensure trailers are “bucked” and “un-bucked” in a timely manner.
Keep stray birds up and deliver them to the dumper.
Monitor and adjust holding shed fans and the fogging system based on animal welfare guidelines and the comfort level of the birds.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the scale office and assist in keeping the outside areas (scales, holding shed, etc.) clean and neat.
Perform double shifts at times.
Move trailers to and from the bay for the box room.
Work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
Follow directions and work in other departments as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
