About The Position

You will be the Scale Model Maker for the Technical Displays (TD) team which is responsible for creating high‑impact physical models that showcase Lockheed Martin’s innovative solutions. As the Scale Model Maker you will be responsible for turning design concepts into tangible models that support marketing, experiments, and customer demonstrations.

Requirements

  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN
  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM focus preferred) or 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated physical model-building experience
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of craftmanship (portfolio or hobby photos required prior to interview)
  • Paint application using HVLP guns, hobby airbrushes, and hand brushes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hobbies related to model building such as Radio Control aircraft or plastic display models
  • Superior hand finish abilities and experience working with a broad range of materials
  • Experience with machine shop tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team
  • Demonstrated vendor-relationship experience
  • CATIA V5 or CAD program experience
  • Experience with 3D printing practices and post-process finishing

Responsibilities

  • Construct and finish marketing display models ranging from full‑size to desktop using plastics, polyester resin, ABS, and other materials.
  • Build and fabricate conceptual study models, from rough proof‑of‑concept pieces to high‑quality, complex assemblies.
  • Manage exhibit model inventory, coordinate with the exhibit team and customers, and stage models for shows.
  • Apply paint using HVLP guns, hobby airbrushes, and hand brushes to achieve professional finishes.
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment, including 3‑axis mill, lathe, table saw, router, and belt sander, in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Utilize 3D printing practices and associated post-process finishing.
  • Physical ability to move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), stage model crates, pull individual desktop model boxes and parcel for customization, set up and dismantle models, inspection, and assessing one-off model repairs required post-shows.
