About The Position

Reporting to the Office Manager, the Scale Clerk supports the landfill administrative operations while maintaining a safe working environment. He/she is responsible for weighing all inbound and outbound vehicles and entering the appropriate data into a computer. He/she will also be in contact with customers and contractors on site; as such he/she must provide excellent customer service. He/she is responsible for working in compliance with all Company policies and procedures as well as any related Health, or Environment Regulations. He/she is responsible for continuing and improving the site’s safety culture.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math and data entry skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to follow oral and written communication
  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the public
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

  • Extensive communication with customers all throughout the day. Clear and polite communication is a primary job function for the scale clerk.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Weighing all inbound and outbound vehicles
  • Inspecting loose loads
  • Directing vehicles to proper unloading areas
  • Assisting in the details of purchases
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Removing hazards as identified
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the work area
  • Communicating clearly and concisely with landfill customers, management, and coworkers to ensure safety and customer service goals are met
  • Maintaining accurate records as required
  • Operating scale computer, applying correct material codes
  • Delivering customer service excellence via telephone, two-way radio, e-mail, face to face, etc.
  • Processing paperwork, entering information and creating standardized reports
  • Promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Handling cash sales/drawer
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
