About The Position

The Scale Assistant performs end-to-end scale house operations for the Specialty division, supporting the safe and accurate receiving and shipping of Standlee 3-tie and specialty products. This role partners closely with Specialty product team, customer service, and carriers to coordinate truck flow, verify product and load details, complete required documentation, and ensure loads are processed efficiently and in compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Scale Assistant builds strong working relationships with new and existing customers and drivers while maintaining a high level of accuracy, service, and communication in a fast-paced shipping and receiving environment.

Requirements

  • Strong computer knowledge and skills.
  • Computer and filing skills are required.
  • Good physical condition, mobility, and the ability to work extended hours are necessary to perform the basic tasks of this position.
  • Good vision and hearing are essential to properly perform these operations.
  • Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the office area in a clean and presentable manner. Remove clutter and dust to promote a better work environment.
  • Perform all weighing, grading, and verification functions in the scale house for inbound and outbound 3-tie and specialty product loads.
  • Operate the probe to obtain samples of inbound and outbound trucks.
  • Complete accurate ticket entry and required data capture for specialty inbound/outbound loads (product, lot, carrier, weights, grading, and destination details).
  • Transfer and close out tickets on a timely basis to support inventory accuracy, billing, and carrier turn-time expectations.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate documents such as Bills of Lading, Export Documents, Scale Tickets, Counter Invoices, Deposit Slips, etc.
  • Manage carrier operations at the scale house: driver check-in/check-out, appointment and dock/yard coordination, and real-time communication of shipping/receiving priorities.
  • Confirm product, packaging, and load configuration requirements (including 3-tie and mixed/specialty product loads) and resolve discrepancies prior to release.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute shipping/receiving documentation (Bills of Lading, scale tickets, export/customer documents as applicable) and ensure accurate entry in required systems.
  • Ensure carrier compliance with site requirements (PPE, safety rules, traffic patterns) and support adherence to weight limits, seal requirements, and customer/carrier instructions.
  • Communicate scale truck movement with appropriate personnel and interact with operations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
