About The Position

The Scaffold Leadman is responsible for leading and supervising scaffold crews engaged in the erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling of scaffolding systems at industrial and commercial job sites. This position ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and client requirements. The Scaffold Leadman coordinates daily work activities, promotes a strong safety culture, monitors productivity and quality, and serves as the primary liaison between the scaffold crew and site supervision. The role also includes mentoring team members, conducting inspections, identifying and correcting hazards, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of scaffold building experience in industrial or commercial construction environments.
Minimum of 1 year of leadership or leadman experience preferred.
Ability to read and interpret scaffold drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Working knowledge of OSHA scaffold regulations and safety requirements.
Must be able to pass all pre-employment screenings, including drug and alcohol testing.
Ability to obtain and maintain site-specific access requirements.
Valid driver's license preferred.
Current Scaffold Competent Person certification preferred.
TWIC card, Basic Plus, NCCER Scaffold certification, or other site-required credentials may be required.
Thorough knowledge of scaffold erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling procedures in industrial and commercial construction environments.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, fall protection requirements, hazard recognition, and safe work practices.
Understanding of scaffold components, materials, load capacities, and proper assembly techniques.
Ability to read and interpret scaffold drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
Strong leadership, crew coordination, and team-building skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, supervisors, clients, and contractors.
Ability to identify safety hazards, conduct inspections, and implement corrective actions.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities.
Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Skilled in conducting job hazard analyses, safety meetings, and mentoring less experienced scaffold builders.
Ability to maintain accurate records, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accountability.
Ability to work safely at elevated heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffold structures while maintaining balance and situational awareness.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel as required by project needs.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment associated with scaffold construction and maintenance.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise scaffold builders in daily work activities.
Coordinate scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling activities according to project requirements.
Ensure all scaffold work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, company procedures, and site-specific requirements.
Conduct pre-job safety meetings and daily job hazard analyses.
Inspect scaffold systems regularly and identify hazards, defects, or unsafe conditions.
Verify that crews are utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Read and interpret scaffold plans, drawings, and work instructions.
Monitor crew productivity and quality of work.
Communicate project needs, material requirements, and workforce concerns to supervisors.
Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, safety meetings, and work activities as required.
Train and mentor scaffold builders to improve performance and safety awareness.
Ensure proper housekeeping and organization of materials and work areas.
Assist with material handling, loading, unloading, and inventory control as needed.
Respond promptly to safety concerns and stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
