About The Position

City Utilities Engineering is seeking a SCADA System Analyst I – Software Specialist to support the software and control systems that keep Fort Wayne's essential water, sewer, and stormwater operations running. This role involves developing, supporting, and improving the software behind industrial control systems, working alongside engineers and operations staff to maintain SCADA applications, databases, process historians, dashboards, data pipelines, and virtualized operational technology infrastructure. It is ideal for individuals who enjoy programming and troubleshooting and want to see their work directly support critical public infrastructure.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering Technology, or another approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university; or An equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
At least two years of experience in an industrial environment involving industrial control systems, programming, instrumentation, database management, or process automation.
Knowledge of industrial control and SCADA platforms.
Experience with SQL databases, queries, and custom database solutions.
Ability to read, modify, create, and document scripts using Python, SQL, C, C++, or related languages.
Understanding of process historians, dashboards, reporting tools, virtual infrastructure, and PLC interfaces.
Knowledge of industrial communications, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, SNMP, gateways, routers, and wireless systems.
Basic understanding of industrial instrumentation used to measure level, flow, pressure, and other process conditions.
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to explain technical information clearly to engineers, operations employees, and vendors.
A valid Indiana driver's license is required when operating a City vehicle.

Nice To Haves

Inductive Automation Ignition experience is preferred.
Inductive Automation Ignition Core or Gold Certification.
Candidates without these certifications must have the interest and ability to pursue them during employment.

Responsibilities

Configure and support SCADA applications, HMIs, graphical interfaces, and industrial control platforms, with an emphasis on Inductive Automation Ignition.
Create, maintain, and document custom scripts and software integrations using Python, SQL, C, C++, or related programming languages.
Maintain SQL databases, process historians, dashboards, reports, historical trends, and data collection or migration pipelines.
Support control-system servers, virtual networks, telemetry systems, and industrial communications, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, SNMP, and LAN/WAN connectivity.
Troubleshoot SCADA connections to PLCs and field devices using alarms, event logs, historical trends, and communication-analysis tools.
Partner with engineering and operations teams to identify control-system needs, develop solutions, document completed work, and support automation projects.
Train employees on SCADA interfaces and custom or newly implemented software solutions.
Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled software, and assist with their responsible implementation and long-term management.
