About The Position

Sungrow is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled SCADA Network Engineer to support utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects within the Sungrow COE organization. This role will focus on industrial communications, SCADA integration, OT networking, Linux-based systems, and interoperability between BESS equipment, EMS/PCS systems, customer SCADA platforms, and utility interfaces. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols including Modbus, CANbus, RS-485, OPC UA, DNP3, and IEC 61850, along with practical experience integrating and troubleshooting SCADA and historian platforms such as Ignition and AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI). This position will work cross-functionally with engineering, commissioning, service, and customer teams to support commissioning activities, diagnose communication issues, validate data flow, and optimize system integration for utility-scale projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA integration industrial networking, or energy storage systems.
  • Experience with utility-scale BESS or renewable energy systems.
  • Understanding of EMS, PCS, substation communication, and utility integration requirements.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial communication networks and field devices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols including: Modbus TCP/RTU, CANbus, RS-485, OPC UA/DA, TCP/IP networking
  • Experience with one or more SCADA/HMI platforms: Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, WinCC, EcoStruxure, Other similar systems
  • Experience with industrial historians and data platforms such as: AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), Canary Historian, InfluxDB, Other similar historian platforms
  • Working knowledge of network infrastructure including: Managed switches, VLANs, Firewalls, Industrial ethernet devices
  • Ability to read and interpret: Wiring diagrams, Network architecture drawings, Register maps, Technical communication documentation
  • Familiarity with: IEC 61850, DNP3, MQTT, Cybersecurity standards for OT systems
  • Experience using: Wireshark, Serial analyzers, Protocol simulators, VPN and remote connectivity tools
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools such as: Python, Bash, PowerShell

Responsibilities

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and validate industrial communication systems including: Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CANbus, RS-485 serial communications, OPC UA/OPC DA, DNP3, IED 61850, MQTT-based architectures
  • Implement, deploy, and support SCADA systems for utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects.
  • Coordinate communication and integration between: BESS systems, PCS equipment, EMS platforms, Utility SCADA systems, PLCs, Third-party monitoring systems, Customer OT Infrastructure
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) by documenting results, troubleshooting issues, and validating reliable telemetry and data acquisition.
  • Diagnose and resolve communication, telemetry, and network performance issues using: Protocol analyzers, Network monitoring tools, Device logs, Packet captures, Register mapping validation
  • Configure and support SCADA/HMI platforms including: Inductive Automation Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Siemens WinCC, Similar industrial SCADA platforms
  • Support industrial historian and data platforms such as: AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), Canary Historian, Ignition Historian, InfluxDB or similar time-series database
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial middleware and integration tools including: Kepware (KEPServerEX), OPC servers, MQTT brokers, Protocol gateways, Serial-to-Ethernet converters
  • Support Linux and Windows based industrial systems such as: CLI/terminal operations, Networking diagnostics, Service/process management, Remote access tools, System configuration and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to validate firmware functionality, communication mappings, and integration requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation involving: Communication maps, Network diagrams, Integration procedures, Register maps, Troubleshooting guides, Commissioning documentation
  • Support remote and onsite commissioning activities and field troubleshooting as required.
  • Assist in maintaining cybersecurity best practices for OT and SCADA environments.
