About The Position

Millwood Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sawmill/Scraggmill Operations Manager to oversee the direction, coordination, and development of the Scragg Mill Operations Team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of all facility equipment, structures, and grounds, achieving timely completion of production goals and KPIs, and managing the budget and scheduling effectively. The ideal candidate will be a strong businessperson with excellent technical skills, unquestioned personal integrity, and a strong work ethic, who appreciates and embraces Millwood's culture, mission, and values. This position reports to the Plant Manager and will oversee a team of approximately 50 members in Tompkinsville, KY.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in supervising all phases of Scragg Mill operations.
  • Expert people management capability including hourly workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Experience managing safety performance and programs.
  • Superior ability to manage people and motivate a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, inventory software, payroll systems, internet software, human resources systems, and order processing systems.

  • Previous experience with sawmill preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Safety improvements (Zero Harm) across the Plant.
  • Manage, communicate, lead by example, and reinforce company values on the floor every day.
  • Ensure mill runs safely and efficiently every shift.
  • Develop and implement standards and processes to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Ensure all members of the department are trained, developed, and able to perform their tasks safely in a timely manner. Coach and discipline when needed.
  • Manage the Scragg Mill operational budget, improving department effectiveness through complex analysis of available data, and ensuring overall efficiency of the site’s workforce and assets.
  • Maintain appropriate production and personnel documentation and logs.
  • Ensure steadfast, daily communication with Plant Manager and Regional Manager through status reporting in matters of production, materials, and personnel, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Shift Supervisors to create programs & plans to ensure proper machine operations and crew safety, including adherence to all Lockout Tagout (LOTO) and Hotwork permitting protocols.
  • Lead the department in execution of assigned projects while maintaining the budget, forecasts, and timelines.
  • Ensure workforce safety and operational efficiency of the equipment through the development of effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Empower the crews to maintain their equipment safely and effectively.
  • Travel as necessary to assist with training, auditing, and various administrative functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
