About The Position

This is a Safety Sensitive Position. The Sawmill Log Crane Operator is responsible for unloading log trucks and placing logs in inventory, as well as keeping the stem deck supplied with logs. The role requires safe operation of cranes and hoists, regular inspection of machinery, performing basic repairs, and setting up machinery according to complex manuals. The operator must also coordinate with ground personnel using hand and verbal signals and adhere to all safety guidelines.

Requirements

Prior experience as a crane operator or in a similar role.
Familiarity with various crane types.
Ability to lift heavy loads, work at heights, and stand for extended periods.
Accuracy and precision in executing tasks.
Must meet safety requirements.
Pass drug and background check.

Responsibilities

Safely control the movement of cranes and hoists.
Transfer logs from log trucks and place in inventory. Keep stem deck supplied with logs.
Regularly inspect machinery and equipment for safety compliance.
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and daily operations.
Perform basic repairs on machines as needed.
Follow complex manuals to set up machinery correctly.
Work closely with ground personnel and interpret hand and verbal signals.
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
Keep the cab of the log crane clean.
Visually check the equipment at the beginning of the shift to ensure it is in proper condition.
Perform and fill out daily check sheets to verify the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.
Assist in equipment repairs and clean up as directed by supervision.
