About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating saw equipment to cut, trim, miter, and process steel and aluminum materials according to work orders, drawings, specifications, and production requirements. This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. The Saw Operator verifies material dimensions, inspects completed cuts, performs routine equipment checks, and ensures finished materials meet required standards before moving to the next stage of production.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to accurately use a tape measure and use calipers micrometers, squares, and other precision measuring tools; candidates must be able to successfully complete any required measurement assessment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand basic machine setup, blade selection, material positioning, and equipment adjustments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic saw operation issues and notify supervision or maintenance when equipment concerns arise.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training or coursework in manufacturing, machining, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a band saw, industrial saw, or similar metal-cutting equipment preferred.
  • Experience working with steel, aluminum, tubing, bar stock, plate, structural materials or other metal materials in a preferred manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane experience preferred; certification or authorization may be required based on company policy.
  • OSHA 10 certification or equivalent basic safety training.
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification or prior authorized operation experience.
  • Experience using band saws, cold saws, chop saws, or similar industrial cutting equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, cut sheets, work orders, or production drawings.
  • Basic familiarity with ISO quality standards, 5S, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate saw equipment to cut, trim, miter, or process steel and aluminum materials according to work orders, drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Review job requirements, material type, dimensions, cut lengths, tolerances, and production priorities before beginning work.
  • Select appropriate blades, guides, stops, fixtures, and machine settings, including speed, feed rate, and blade tension, to support safe operation and quality cuts.
  • Measure and verify material using a tape measure, calipers, and other measuring tools to ensure finished parts meet required specifications.
  • Load, position, secure, and stage material for cutting operations using appropriate handling methods and equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material-handling equipment as authorized and needed to move materials safely.
  • Inspect completed cuts for accuracy, quality, burrs, defects, and conformance with production and quality standards.
  • Change saw blades, perform routine equipment checks, and report maintenance or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety standards, housekeeping expectations, and established procedures.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with supervisors and team members to meet production schedules, quality expectations, and business needs.
