About The Position

This position is technically responsible for the support of the metallurgical facility through sample preparation. The Saw Operator performs a variety of Machine Shop duties, ensuring the overall efficiency of sample production. This role involves preparing samples including sample cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching. The operator must be familiar with the latest sample preparation techniques for all types of materials, including manual and automatic methods. Working from written specifications, the operator sets up and operates a cut-off saw, making straight and mitered cuts of various materials and shapes. Adjustments, mounting, and replacement of blades are also part of the duties. The role requires measuring proper lengths and maintaining quality control procedures, as well as adhering to proper chemical hygiene and safety standards for all areas of the facility. The Saw Operator is responsible for maintaining the facility and equipment, including preventative maintenance, and adhering to shop safety standards.

Requirements

  • At least 1 years’ experience working full-time in a machine shop or materials testing laboratory.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, lay out and machining procedures
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task.
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a member of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to accept feedback and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
