About The Position

The Satellite Command & Data-Handling (C&DH) System Engineer will be responsible for translating mission-level requirements into C&DH functional and non-functional specifications. This role involves producing System Requirements, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Description documents, while managing requirements and maintaining bidirectional traceability throughout the project lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with cyber-security teams to embed resilience and security by design. Key design and development tasks include leading the detailed design of on-board processors, data-buses (SpaceWire, MIL-1553, CAN, Ethernet), memory subsystems, and I/O interfaces. Support will be provided for software architecture, including command sequencing, telemetry packetization, health-monitoring, services, and fault-detection-isolation-recovery (FDIR). The role also involves supporting Satellite Reference Database development and validation. Cross-functional coordination includes communicating technical status, risk assessments, and trade-study results to senior management and/or customers or partners. Collaboration with FSW teams will define RTOS, APIs, task scheduling, real-time operating system configuration, and services usage. The engineer will define uplink command formatting, downlink telemetry packet structures, and ground-segment data-handling interfaces. Coordination with TT&C/PDT engineering and Ground Segment ICDs is crucial for end-to-end data integrity. Support for B&P (Phase 0 & pre-phase A) is also required. In Integration & Verification (IVV), the engineer will develop verification plans, test matrices, and validation procedures for C&DH tests at unit, subsystem, and spacecraft levels. Execution of functional tests, bus-protocol compliance, SIL, and HIL campaigns will be performed, along with managing anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action implementation. Technical leadership involves mentoring junior engineers and interns, acting as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and external vendors, and serving as a Continuous Improvement stakeholder. Configuration, Documentation & Standards Management includes authoring and maintaining C&DH standards, ensuring version control of artefacts in a PLM environment, supporting design reviews, and contributing to Technology Road-Mapping & Innovation. On-Orbit & Operations Support involves assisting with launch-pre-launch and early-orbit checkout, validating satellite functions, and supporting on-orbit telemetry analysis and operator trainings.
