About The Position

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Satellite Care Assistant for our Project Wildlife team! In this role, you’ll be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of satellite (homecare) rehabilitation. The Satellite Care Assistant handles the administrative logistics of animal movement to and from satellite care sites, support satellite volunteer teams, coordinate caging projects, maintain the patient database, serve as a back-up for transport teams, and assist with supply procurement and distribution. This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of various animal medical records and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
  • Additionally, applicants must have a vehicle that can transport small animals and supplies.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Wildlife Sciences, Animal Behavior, Zoology, Biology, or related field and at least one year of professional experience providing administrative support and working with volunteers preferred.
  • Prior experience working with/in a wildlife-related organization is highly preferred.
  • Experience with basic construction, and minor repair preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accuracy of the patient database, animal records, and wildlife transport records; coordinates and assists with data entry and ensures all records are accurate and up to date.
  • Assists with monitoring the satellite care mobile phone and serves as the point of contact when assigned
  • Assists with coordinating animal placement, movement, and release within the satellite care system; works with Wildlife Rehabilitation staff and Wildlife Admissions and Satellite supervisor to arrange transport and transports wildlife patients between Oceanside, Escondido, San Diego, and Ramona campuses as needed.
  • Serves as a point of contact for satellite volunteers with animal husbandry or health issues; troubleshoots by investigating problems and consulting with the Wildlife Admissions and Satellite Supervisor and/or Medical staff.
  • Works with Volunteer Engagement (VE) to provide instructional demonstration sessions on animal handling techniques with staff and satellite volunteers; partners with VE and Satellite Supervisor to track progress of satellite volunteers and follow up with those who are not meeting minimum commitments, require additional training, or fail to complete onboarding steps.
