SAR Imagery Analyst

PeratonSpringfield, VA
$104,000 - $166,000

About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Imagery Analyst to support the evaluation and characterization of SAR imagery for current and emerging sensor systems. The successful candidate will assess SAR image quality, identify artifacts and anomalies, and evaluate the impact of system and processing changes on exploitation performance. This role requires expertise throughout the SAR tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination (TCPED) lifecycle, as well as a strong understanding of SAR phenomenology and image interpretation. The analyst will collaborate with engineers and mission partners to evaluate new sensor capabilities, validate product quality, and ensure imagery meets operational exploitation requirements. Experience with SAR image quality metrics, exploitation software, and National Image Interpretability Rating Scale (NIIRS) principles is highly desirable. This position plays a critical role in improving the performance, quality, and operational utility of SAR systems supporting our customer's intelligence mission.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Top Secret clearance and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI and successfully complete a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at the customer's request (contract requires TS/SCI with polygraph).
  • 5+ years of imagery analysis experience within the Intelligence Community at the national level.
  • Bachelor's degree. Four additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Extensive experience with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery, including tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, dissemination, and SAR phenomenology.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing SAR image quality, identifying image artifacts and anomalies, and evaluating the operational impact of system or processing changes.
  • Graduate of an Imagery Geospatial Intelligence Training Program or DoD equivalent.
  • Knowledge of soft-copy imagery exploitation tools and workflows.
  • Experience with RemoteView, IEC, SOCET GXP, and other imagery exploitation software.
  • Understanding of the intelligence collection process and imagery exploitation lifecycle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Experience applying image quality standards and methodologies, including NIIRS, image quality metrics, and image quality equations.
  • Experience evaluating SAR system performance, sensor characterization, or image quality validation.
  • Familiarity with multiple imagery phenomenologies (EO, IR, MSI, FMV) to support comparative image quality assessments.
  • Experience supporting imagery quality evaluations for new sensor development, system upgrades, or operational test and evaluation activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assess SAR image quality.
  • Identify artifacts and anomalies in SAR imagery.
  • Evaluate the impact of system and processing changes on exploitation performance.
  • Collaborate with engineers and mission partners to evaluate new sensor capabilities.
  • Validate product quality.
  • Ensure imagery meets operational exploitation requirements.
