This position is for an experienced SAP ABAP Developer to support a large-scale sustainment and operations effort, keeping the U.S. Navy's ERP ecosystem running at peak readiness. In this role, the developer will serve as a key technical resource for an established SAP ECC environment, maintaining and enhancing custom ABAP programs, resolving production issues, managing batch job operations, and supporting middleware integrations that underpin Navy financial and supply chain operations. The developer will work closely with functional analysts, program managers, and government stakeholders to deliver reliable, mission-sustaining solutions day-to-day.

Requirements

  • 4-8+ years of demonstrated SAP ABAP development experience including custom reports, user exits, BADIs, BAPIs, RFC, ALV, and SmartForms/Adobe Forms.
  • Hands-on experience supporting SAP ECC production environments, with focus on sustainment, break-fix, and enhancement activities.
  • Functional knowledge across two or more SAP modules—MM, FM, FI, CO, SCM, PS, SD, WM, or IM—with emphasis on Supply Chain Management and Financials/Funds Management.
  • Working knowledge of webMethods or equivalent middleware platforms and their SAP integration touchpoints.
  • Experience with Unix environments and FTP-based file transfer processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate across functional and program teams.
  • Ability to work in on-call rotation environments with high operational tempo and overtime expectations during critical periods.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior DoD or U.S. Navy experience, including direct work on Navy ERP or related financial/logistics systems.
  • Active DoD security clearance (Secret or above).
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA concepts, CDS Views, or OData services—beneficial as the Navy's ERP landscape evolves.
  • Experience with SAP Solution Manager for transport management and change control.
  • Exposure to Agile or SAFe delivery methodologies in federal IT programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, enhance, and optimize existing ABAP programs, reports, BADIs, user exits, and forms across the Navy ERP production environment.
  • Perform ABAP performance analysis and tuning—identifying bottlenecks, optimizing SQL, and improving runtime efficiency of production programs.
  • Manage and monitor job scheduling, execution, and issue resolution—ensuring batch processes run reliably and exceptions are escalated appropriately.
  • Analyze and triage complex production incidents across SAP modules including MM, FM, FI, CO, SCM, PS, SD, WM, and IM, providing timely and well-documented resolutions.
  • Support middleware integration touchpoints using webMethods/SAP PI and FTP/Unix-based interfaces connecting Navy ERP to external systems.
  • Collaborate with functional teams and government stakeholders to analyze business requirements, document technical specifications, and implement solutions within established change control processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation including design documents, code change logs, and sustainment procedures in compliance with program standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to respond to critical production incidents with urgency—this role carries significant expectations for availability during high-priority events.
