About The Position

The Sanitation Truck Driver operates sanitation collection vehicles to provide residential and commercial refuse collection services throughout the City. Performs assigned collection routes safely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with all applicable safety standards, traffic laws, and City policies. Assists with a variety of sanitation operations, including refuse collection, brush collection, and special assignments as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) and good driving record.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of operating commercial sanitation vehicles or related heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of City refuse collection routes or the ability to learn assigned routes within a reasonable training period.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous municipal sanitation experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Safely operates rear-load, side-load, or other sanitation collection vehicles on designated residential and commercial collection routes.
  • Performs daily refuse and trash collection in accordance with established schedules and assigned routes.
  • Operates brush trucks or other Public Works vehicles as assigned.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and completes required inspection reports.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions, accidents, unsafe conditions, and maintenance needs promptly.
  • Maintains assigned sanitation vehicles in a clean and safe operating condition.
  • Ensures refuse is collected efficiently while minimizing damage to streets, curbs, mailboxes, and private property.
  • Works closely with sanitation crew members to complete assigned routes safely and efficiently.
  • Assists with garbage bag distribution and other sanitation-related public service programs.
  • Assists with special collections, bulky waste removal, storm debris cleanup, and emergency response operations as needed.
  • Follows all departmental safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local traffic laws while operating City vehicles.
  • Provides courteous and professional customer service when interacting with residents and the public.
  • Maintains required records, inspection forms, mileage logs, and other documentation as assigned.
  • Maintains assigned equipment in a clean and safe operating condition.

  • Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
