Sanitation Supervisor

Decko Products•Sandusky, OH
•Onsite

About The Position

The Sanitation Supervisor leads the sanitation crew and owns the result: every room and line in both buildings cleaned to standard, documented, and handed back ready for first-shift start-up. This is a working supervisor who spends the shift on the floor. We make icings and frostings, cookie icing and decorating gels, sprinkles and candy decorations, and dry baking mixes across two buildings in Sandusky. Some rooms are wet-cleaned (icing, frosting and gel kettles, pumps, fillers and pouch lines). Others are dry-cleaned with little or no water (dry blending, mix filling and kit pack-out). Many products carry allergens, and some are gluten-free, so the clean between products matters as much as the clean at the end of the night.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of sanitation experience in a food plant, with at least one year leading a crew.
  • Hands-on knowledge of wet cleaning (kettles, pumps, piping, fillers) and of dry cleaning in powder or dry blend operations.
  • Working knowledge of allergen control, Good Manufacturing Practices, SSOPs, and food safety programs such as HACCP and SQF.
  • Experience with chemical titration, ATP or allergen swabbing, and sanitation record keeping.
  • Able to teach a procedure, hold a standard, and correct people calmly and on the spot.

Nice To Haves

  • PCQI or HACCP certificate
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Experience bringing a contracted sanitation program in-house

Responsibilities

  • Plan and assign each night's work across both buildings from the production schedule, the changeover plan and the master sanitation schedule.
  • Lead, train and coach the Sanitation Technicians and Sanitation Engineers; work alongside them and step in on any clean when needed.
  • Walk every room and inspect every line before releasing it; correct and re-clean before Quality's pre-operational inspection, not after.
  • Make sure allergen and gluten-free changeover cleans are done to the full procedure and verified, with swab results recorded.
  • Keep the dry blend and mix rooms on dry-clean methods and control any use of water in those areas.
  • Own chemical control: correct dilution, titration checks, labeling, storage, Safety Data Sheets and inventory, working with the chemical supplier.
  • Maintain the master sanitation schedule and keep sanitation procedures (SSOPs) current for each piece of equipment as lines and products change.
  • Review and sign the night's sanitation records; keep them complete and ready for customer, third-party and regulatory audits.
  • Receive each room from production using the end-of-run checklist, and hand it back to the first-shift supervisor and Quality in person.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout, protective gear and chemical safety; investigate and report every incident and near miss.
  • Track and report the basics: pre-operational pass rate, re-cleans, start-up delays caused by sanitation, swab results, chemical use and labor hours.
  • Manage attendance, schedules and timekeeping for the crew; take part in hiring and in performance conversations.
  • Lead corrective action when a clean fails; write and follow through on maintenance requests for leaks, damaged parts and hard-to-clean equipment.
