The Sanitation Supervisor leads and develops a sanitation team to consistently execute sanitation programs that meet or exceed HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and health and safety requirements. The supervisor ensures that sanitation is performed correctly, thoroughly, and on schedule, with particular attention to high‑risk food contact equipment such as kettles, pots, cutting surfaces, utensils, food containers, and processing equipment used in the manufacture of children’s meals. This position requires a hands-on leader who understands that sanitation is critical to food safety—not simply a cleaning function. The Sanitation Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the facility is production-ready every day through effective pre-operational inspections, environmental monitoring, corrective actions, and verification activities. When sanitation gaps occur, this role is responsible for identifying root causes, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring issues do not recur. In addition to technical sanitation expertise, the Sanitation Supervisor must demonstrate strong people leadership. Success in this role depends on the ability to train, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable to high standards while fostering a culture of ownership, attention to detail, and food safety awareness. The supervisor sets clear expectations, provides ongoing feedback, and ensures that all team members understand how their work directly impacts the safety of food production. The Sanitation Supervisor works cross-functionally with, Production, Maintenance, Procurement, and external service providers to ensure sanitation programs are effective, sustainable, and aligned with business needs. As a member of the HACCP team, this individual plays an active role in audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and facility upgrades that strengthen sanitation systems and reduce risk. The successful Sanitation Supervisor ensures the facility is consistently clean, sanitized, and production‑ready to support the safe manufacture of meals. They lead a trained and accountable sanitation team that meets GFSI, HACCP and GMP standards, delivers strong pre‑operational results, and supports successful audits. Through hands‑on leadership and proactive problem solving, they identify and address sanitation risks early, reinforcing a strong food safety culture every day.

Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education in Microbiology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct leading sanitation teams in a GFSI, HACCP, BRC, SQF or ISO certified food production facility.
  • Experience managing sanitation in multi‑shift or 24/7 operations.
  • Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing principles, resource planning, and cost management.
  • Knowledge of GMP and Provincial Safety Regulations.
  • Intermediate Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Comfortable in Safety/Steel-toed boots (will be provided)
  • Cold temperature environments as needed

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain HACCP programs and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Ensure all sanitation, cleaning, and verification records are accurately completed and maintained as required.
  • Monitor sanitation supply inventory and notify Purchasing in advance when materials need to be reordered.
  • Identify areas requiring additional cleaning, repairs, or maintenance and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Oversee production area cleanliness, accessibility, and overall organization to meet food safety and GMP requirements.
  • Ensure all food production equipment is visibly clean, properly maintained, and that routine environmental and equipment swabbing is conducted.
  • Maintain clean, sanitized, fully stocked restroom facilities and welfare areas
  • Provide hands-on sanitation support as required, including during peak operations, inspections, or special projects.
  • Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of exhaust systems, hoods, COP systems (cabinet washers), floor scrubbers, and drains.
  • Ensure thorough cleaning of walls, windows, glass surfaces, and exterior grounds.
  • Maintain the cafeteria in a clean and orderly condition, including removing, cleaning, and sanitizing serving trays; cleaning and sanitizing food service areas; sweeping floors; and cleaning tables and chairs as required.
  • Maintain sanitation tools and equipment in proper working conditions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Pest Control providers and sanitation chemical vendors/service providers.
  • Participate in CAPEX projects as required, including planning, implementation, and validation activities related to sanitation and food safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and food safety objectives.
  • Ensure a safe work environment is always maintained.
  • Ensure employees have the required level of safety training including PPE usage.
  • Maintain compliance with JHSC recommendations, policies, GMPs and HACCP processes.
  • Understands LOTO, proper covering of electrical components to avoid damages, chemical safety WHMIS / SDS.
  • Provide direct supervision and operational oversight of the sanitation team.
  • Support recruitment by interviewing and selecting high‑performing, culture‑aligned candidates (A Players).
  • Lead by example and promote a strong, accountable team culture.
  • Ensure effective onboarding, orientation, and training for all new employees.
  • Manage performance through regular feedback, coaching, and formal performance reviews.
  • Coach and counsel employees on performance and employee‑relations matters in line with company policies.
  • Oversee workforce planning, scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll for the department.
  • Maintain regular communication rhythms through team huddles, meetings, and 1-1 discussions.
