About The Position

As a Sanitation Operator, you will be responsible for maintaining sanitation standards for a food manufacturing facility. Areas to maintain include warehouse, shipping and receiving, chemical rooms, and non-product contact equipment and areas in the production rooms. Key duties include cleaning non-product contact equipment to quality standards, handling hazardous materials and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The role requires proactive communication, proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to good manufacturing programs and food safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to gain company forklift and scissor lift certification.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points).
  • Ability to be on your feet for 8-hour shift.
  • Frequently move, lift, pull & push up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on a ladder as needed.
  • Must be able to tolerate strong odors and allergens.
  • Employee will be exposed to a wet environment when washing rooms and equipment.
  • Must follow all PPE requirements. Cleaning and sanitizing procedures require special clothing and protective gear. Employee will handle hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Employee will work in minimal temperature control environment and be exposed to local temperature variations (hot & cold).
  • Strong attention to detail to maintain sanitation, safety, and quality standards.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, chemical concentration guidelines, and standard work instructions accurately.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, food safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective verbal communication and teamwork across sanitation, production, and quality functions.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and complete work within scheduled sanitation windows.
  • Dependability, accountability, and consistent attendance.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify sanitation issues, escalate concerns, and support corrective action.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and continuous improvement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Clean non-product contact equipment and surfaces throughout the production facility, excluding office areas, locker rooms, and restrooms.
  • Disassemble and clean sanitation equipment such as floor scrubbers, boot scrubbers, foamers, and sprayers using approved chemicals.
  • Follow concentration tables to dilute cleaning chemicals to the proper levels.
  • Monitor and maintain sanitation equipment chemical levels.
  • Maintain cleaning sanitation schedule to ensure production continuity.
  • Support other cleaning/sanitation activities throughout the building as needed.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed honestly and accurately.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and neat manner and in accordance with GMPs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and monthly safety and quality training.
  • Clearly, effectively, and proactively communicate with production and quality teams.
  • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Authorized to halt operations immediately if unsafe conditions are observed.
