About The Position

Reporting to the Bakery Manager, the Sanitation Leader–Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to the Sanitation Team across all shifts at the site, ensuring sanitation activities are performed effectively and to standard. This role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the plant, external premises, and all equipment, machinery, and utensils used in the production process. The Sanitation Leader–Supervisor is accountable for the development, implementation, execution, and continuous evaluation of the bakery sanitation program, including taking corrective actions to prevent product contamination. The incumbent ensures all Lead Hands and Team Members consistently follow Wonderbrands’ food safety, GMP, HACCP, safety requirements, and Corporate Food Safety Standards while performing their duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a sanitation environment; food or bakery experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to lead, coach, and mentor a team of 10–15 team members, including permanent and temporary staff
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams to meet operational schedules
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to identify sanitation issues and ensure cleanliness standards are met
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, BRC, and Occupational Health & Safety (OHSA) requirements
  • Familiarity with internal and external audits/inspections
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with EAM, SAP, and Kronos is an asset
  • Experience working with CFIA-approved sanitation chemicals is an asset
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and a strong understanding of the importance of sanitation to food safety and product quality
  • Physically capable of performing the demands of the role
  • Scissor Lift license is considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education is an asset
  • Flexibility to work days, afternoons, nights, and weekends as required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, and assign daily sanitation tasks in accordance with training levels, staffing, and operational requirements
  • Coordinate and oversee all sanitation activities to ensure compliance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and alignment with EAM work orders
  • Oversee the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), ensuring all cleaning activities are completed within established timeframes
  • Perform GMP, internal, and random sanitation inspections; communicate results and follow up on corrective actions and deficiencies
  • Conduct swab testing and collect water samples as required, including monitoring pH levels and maintaining accurate records
  • Maintain complete and accurate sanitation documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly records, inspections, corrective actions, and follow-up activities
  • Train, coach, mentor, and lead sanitation team members; ensure proper training is delivered and training records are maintained
  • Conduct pre-shift huddles and provide ongoing feedback to team members on performance, expectations, and opportunities for improvement
  • Foster a strong culture of food safety, teamwork, mutual respect, and accountability by leading by example
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, BRC food safety standards, company policies, and all applicable food, health, and safety regulations
  • Promote and enforce the company’s Health & Safety program, ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and JHSC recommendations
  • Ensure all sanitation chemicals are used and mixed according to supplier specifications
  • Coordinate with QA and Production to ensure effective cleaning and sanitizing practices are consistently implemented
  • Participate in capital projects, new equipment installations, and new product launches by providing sanitation expertise and recommendations
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, external customers, and suppliers
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making skills and strong interpersonal communication
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Sanitation Leader or VP of Sanitation
