Requirements

Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing automotive equipment operation.
Familiarity with the operating and repair characteristics of heavy public works equipment.
Understanding of the component parts, operating principles, and maintenance needs of various machinery.
Well-rounded comprehension of the city’s layout, including streets and alleyways.
Ability to service equipment and perform minor repairs.
Capacity to understand and execute both written and oral instructions.
Strong reporting skills for maintaining records.
Physical strength and agility to operate equipment, especially under challenging weather conditions.
Manual dexterity for handling machinery effectively.
Completion of high school diploma or GED is desirable.
Some experience in the operation and routine maintenance of trucks, specialized automotive equipment, or related automotive equipment.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Tennessee.

Responsibilities

Operate residential, commercial, and recycling sanitation equipment.
Efficiently load and unload collected materials.
Ensure the safe operation of specialized maintenance and construction equipment.
Operate front-loading and rear-loading vehicles.
Manage recycling collection equipment.
Utilize heavy machinery such as backhoes and forklifts.
Perform tasks with manual dexterity and skill in handling complex equipment.
Perform tasks independently while adhering to safety protocols.
Oversee subordinate operators (may be required).
Maintain a clean and environmentally friendly community.
