Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing automotive equipment operation.
- Familiarity with the operating and repair characteristics of heavy public works equipment.
- Understanding of the component parts, operating principles, and maintenance needs of various machinery.
- Well-rounded comprehension of the city’s layout, including streets and alleyways.
- Ability to service equipment and perform minor repairs.
- Capacity to understand and execute both written and oral instructions.
- Strong reporting skills for maintaining records of activities.
- Physical strength and agility to operate equipment, especially under challenging weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity for handling machinery effectively.
- Completion of high school diploma or GED is desirable.
- Some experience in the operation and routine maintenance of trucks, specialized automotive equipment, or related automotive equipment.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
- Valid commercial driver’s license from the State of Tennessee.
Responsibilities
- Engage in challenging semi-skilled work that involves operating residential, commercial, and recycling sanitation equipment.
- Efficiently load and unload collected materials.
- Ensure the safe operation of specialized maintenance and construction equipment.
- Operate front-loading and rear-loading vehicles.
- Manage recycling collection equipment.
- Utilize heavy machinery such as backhoes and forklifts.
- Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and skill in handling complex equipment.
- Perform tasks independently while adhering to safety protocols.
- Oversee subordinate operators.
- Maintain a clean and environmentally friendly community.
