About The Position

Collection of trash and recycling throughout assigned areas on campus and deposit contents in approved locations. Work closely with supervision of staff. Maintain clean and neat appearance of all outside containers as well as those collected from within resident halls. Work special events maintaining clean and sanitized trash containers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with less than 1 year of experience
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out' or fatiguing during cleaning.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Ability to communicate information to supervisors or co-workers by telephone or in person.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Must have a valid NC driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all outside standing trash cans that are located on campus.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Remove all trash from assigned buildings and exterior trash cans.
  • Empty cigarette urns that are located on campus.
  • Periodically clean all trash containers and return to their designated place.
  • Pick up trash and rubbish on grounds that are in assigned areas.
  • Assist and perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, snow and ice removal as required.
  • Drive Cushman trucks on campus in a safe manner to collect trash in designated areas.
  • Must be able to back up and dump trash into dumpsters.
  • Clear trash or items in vehicles at end of every shift.
  • Notify the proper channels with repairs needed that are observed throughout campus.
  • Report vehicle problems to shift supervisor.
  • Use of wet floor signs and other safety signs when appropriate.
  • Attend and utilize information provided by yearly training.
