About The Position

This job consists of collecting hourly samples for each of the 3 systems, 2 fat samples, feather samples and blood samples. It requires repetitive climbing, lots of walking throughout the plant, and good communication, computer, and penmanship skills. It requires upper body and arm strength due to frequently climbing vertical ladders and having to pull up your own weight, and not being afraid of heights. The role also involves the ability to help in other areas of the plant between sample collections. The Sample Runner must read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training within Industry (T.W.I.) utilizing Lean rules and principles. They must work safely, following all Simmons policies and requirements, or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, and vehicles, handling of feed products, packaging, ingredients, and any other related items. The role involves operating all equipment, monitoring and maintaining production speeds and quality of the finished product, and keeping the department clean and uncluttered throughout the shift. Accomplishing any other related duties as directed by the shift supervisor and completing all department forms are also key responsibilities. The position requires performing essential responsibilities with little or no supervision. The ability to recognize hazards and take precautions is essential. The Sample Runner participates as a member of the Team, engaging in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. They coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T. practices with all team members and attend appropriate team meetings. As a team member, they foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues such as direction, annual plan, budget, and policy changes. They accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization. The role requires familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understanding the responsibility to maintain this familiarity, including the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. The role requires the ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot or cold environment. The ability to walk and stand on feet for more than 10 hours per shift is necessary. Climbing stairs and fixed and vertical ladders is required occasionally. Occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling are also part of the job. The ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs is required.
