About The Position
Our Wilmington, NC laboratory is looking for an entry-level Sample Custody Specialist to join their Sample Management team! The Sample Custody Specialist's primary responsibilities are to greet clients, receive samples, prepare bottle kits or sample media for clients, deliver samples to the labs, dispose of expired samples, and work in shipping and receiving. The Sample Custody Specialist is responsible for following all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment throughout the department and the laboratory.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (Required)
- Advanced English language skills (Required)
- Basic mathematical and reasoning skills (Required)
- Strong customer service skills (Required)
- Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 50 lbs on a constant basis (Required)
Nice To Haves
- Experience in an environmental laboratory (Preferred)
- Associate degree in a science-related field (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Greets clients dropping off samples in a professional and courteous manner.
- Receives samples directly from clients or third-party couriers
- Unpacks sample coolers and containers and documents sample receipt, and organizes samples in an efficient and timely manner
- Verifies and records sample receipt condition/temperatures, as applicable
- Creates jobs, enters bottle/sample media records, and generates bottle/sample labels using LIMS in accordance with chain of custody (COC)
- Scans COCs and any other supporting sample submission documents
- Applies sample labels to sample containers
- Transfers samples between sample reception, cold or ambient storage areas, and laboratory departments
- Ships samples, coolers, sample media and packages to clients and other SGS locations
- Prepares client bottle/sample media kits
- Maintains all required documentation with accuracy and clarity
- Removes historical samples from completed jobs and assigns samples for disposal; disposes of expired samples
- Communicates sample information to Client Services team and lab operations to ensure timely issue resolution
- Adheres to lab and sample management SOPs to ensure that proper sampling handling procedures are followed
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
- Performs other duties as assigned
