About The Position

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Work at Home Bilingual Samoan-English Phone Interpreter. This is an independent contractor position. As an interpreter, you will receive training that is the best in the industry, with opportunities for advancement. You will work in a certified ASTM and ISO environment and be supported by a Senior Language Specialist and Help Desks. Our interpreters serve clients across numerous industries, including healthcare, 911, first responders, education, government agencies, and business.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Samoan and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective.
  • Ability to remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Applicants for employment in the US must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with LanguageLine Solutions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Dedicated personal device for business purposes (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone).
  • High speed Internet connection (download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, Jitter value of no more than 30 ms).
  • Must have access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
  • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer the majority of the workday.
  • Must be able to operate company provided software and systems.
  • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
  • Able to lift up to 26 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages - highly preferred.
  • Based on your location, a post-offer, a pre-employment background check and/or drug screen may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle calls on demand, rendering the meaning of conversations between Samoan and English speakers.
  • Break communication barriers in various industries including Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.
  • Process information quickly and concisely, recognizing sensitive cultural differences.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times, using appropriate terminology and understanding common industry procedures.
  • Translate verbally, not in writing.
  • Ensure a quiet and secure home-office environment.
  • Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
  • Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol.
  • Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
  • Remain on calls for extended periods without breaks if necessary, and handle high call volumes.
  • Provide the required company standards of service within a dynamic environment.
