The Same Day Surgery CNA assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients in the Day Surgery Center. This role involves direct patient care activities such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and assisting with patient mobility. The CNA is responsible for accurately measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). They also play a role in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision, ensuring patient comfort and safety by keeping call lights within reach and performing purposeful rounding. The position requires the ability to perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique and assistive devices. Additionally, the CNA assists with nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, and managing special patient supplies. They are responsible for collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, and coordinating tests and treatments with other departments. The role also involves maintaining knowledge of the EHR system, processing patient charges, and facilitating communication within the healthcare team. A key aspect of this role is ensuring age-appropriate care and demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
