The Sales Trainee will build selling skills, learn core sales process, and gradually assume responsibility for lead generation, customer engagement, and revenue-driving activities of wood products and building materials. The role serves as a structured transition from service to sales to prepare for advancement into a business development capacity.

Requirements

  • Tenacious with strong business acumen, communication skills, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Computer proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Docs and ability to navigate and acquire skills to use internal systems.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Business preferred or two (2) years equivalent experience in business-to-business sales.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire knowledge and hands on experience of the lumber industry and exposure to customers, products, market strategies, products, availability, and manufacturing processes.
  • Engage with prospective and existing customers through outbound outreach, inbound inquiries, and relationship-building activities.
  • Develop selling skills including discovery, objection handling, negotiation, and value-based communication.
  • Cross-train amongst sales teams to shadow calls, understand the full sales cycle, and support sales teams with business development and sales functions.
  • Provide quotes and pricing to customers and answer questions about lumber products, orders, or services.
  • Process and manage sales orders for production, distribution, and invoicing.
  • Troubleshoot issues between operations and sales team.
  • Arrange and collaborate with Logistics team for timely shipment/distribution.
  • Process and track customer credit applications.
  • Transition from service to sales by learning how to generate leads, identify customer needs, solutions, and close opportunities for revenue growth.
  • Follow company policies and procedures such as sales reporting, system entry, and credit.
  • Provide ideas, innovation and suggestions for continuous improvement and maximizing sales opportunities.
