About The Position

This Sales Representative role is responsible for developing independent account business, with a focus on overall profitability through new sales and account penetration. The position involves promoting and selling company-branded products to meet sales objectives. It may also include supporting customer service activities for regional and/or national chain customers to increase the company's market visibility and share. The individual will function as a team member within the department and organization, performing duties to best serve the company. Performance Foodservice, PFG’s broadline distributor, works with a variety of local customers, including independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The team, comprising sales reps, chefs, consultants, and other experts, builds close relationships with customers, offering advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. The goal is to deliver quality food and support independent restaurant owners in achieving their business aspirations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 6-12 months food or beverage sales experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree Business Management, Sales/Marketing, or related area
  • 1-2 years food or beverage sales experience

Responsibilities

  • Generates additional business by analyzing sales territory and individual customers; samples products with existing and potential customers; plans general sales strategy, including time and territory management; plan sales approach with individual customers; and conducts effective sales presentations.
  • Grows sales and profit margins continuously to meet established sales and margin goals.
  • Sets up new customer accounts by determining pricing; works with the Credit Department for initial authorization; and other center personnel for scheduling order-taking, deliveries, etc.
  • Performs initial follow-up work with customers to ensure delivery and product satisfaction.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by providing an exemplary level of service.
  • Works closely with other center personnel to coordinate efforts to prevent and resolve customer problems.
  • May be personally responsible for making deliveries in emergencies.
  • Builds additional business with current customers through product penetration in order to maximize the profitability of individual accounts.
  • Minimizes accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and following up on any issues.
  • Maintains awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly market-driven / commodity products, to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
