About The Position

Our Sales Trainee has an eye for the big picture. With a passionate focus on both the people and the details, they are a key player when it comes to selling and marketing products from Tolko’s manufacturing operations. This position is designed to provide valuable experience and training in sales, with the potential to turn into a permanent role. We’re looking for a Sales Trainee to join our Vernon office located in Vernon, British Columbia for a 12-month term. Tolko’s Sales Development Program is a structured multi-year pathway designed to build a strong foundation of sales skills and business acumen. Participants gain hands-on experience across key areas, develop customer relationship skills, and build the capabilities needed for growth within Tolko. Our head office houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement, and Human Resources.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a passion for building relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer-based analytical skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and creativity.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service or sales experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the forestry industry is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize net return to the Business Units through effective product planning, sales strategies, and monitoring of market conditions and competitor actions.
  • Work with members of the Sales Team and the Sales Coordinators to develop weekly and periodic sales lists for our external customers.
  • Ensure the Business Units are supplied with orders that match mill production and the supply of transportation equipment.
  • Manage finished inventory levels to target levels, considering inventory costs, market conditions, and product deterioration.
  • Provide regular information to internal customers regarding market trends and external customer feedback.
  • Negotiate fair settlements of customer claims on behalf of the business units.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial budgets, business plans, and strategic plans.
  • Maintain a customer base (North America) that matches mill production capabilities.
  • Professionally represent Tolko Marketing and Sales to the public.
