About The Position

The California Sales Manager is responsible for managing all independent on/off-premise activities, on-premise national account compliance, and programming within their designated territory to ensure maximum market share, brand awareness, and sell-through. The primary responsibilities are driving depletions, net revenue, and PODs (points of distribution). A requirement to achieve those goals is focusing on maximizing distribution within current assigned accounts and further development of new, high-velocity, high-value accounts. This territory will span Northern California, East Bay/Oakland Area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience in wine industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good mathematics skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, CRM systems, and depletion software (VIP).
  • Ability to be in the market 80% of the time, defined as time out of the home office, visiting accounts and hosting events.
  • Must possess a dependable vehicle, valid driver's license, proof of state car registration, insurance, and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve biannual goals focused against depletions, net revenue, and PODs.
  • Manage current and grows account universe within assigned territory with key focus against high-velocity, high-value accounts.
  • Utilize and is proficient in available sales tools to manage and identify new opportunities (e.g., CA daily sales report, iDig, SommAi).
  • Work closely with the customer service department to ensure orders are placed correctly and on time, abiding by all applicable cut-off times.
  • Generate new customer credit applications and ensures accounts remain in good financial standing with the company.
  • Manage all wine dinners, staff training, tastings, and wholesale events within territory.
  • Represent The Duckhorn Portfolio at consumer and trade events as confirmed by their manager.
  • Help to achieve 100% compliance for national accounts programming through initial roll out and follow-up, in partnership with Inside Sales.
  • Work as a member and contributor to the TDP California Wholesale team highly collaborative culture.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, County and City laws.
  • Operate within assigned budgetary parameters.
