About The Position

The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. This role involves operating the cash register, assisting guests, maintaining the sales floor, and ensuring a positive shopping environment. The job requires adherence to company mission and values, maintaining a professional appearance, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Over the age of 21 to work at Spec's.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Responsible, reliable, and committed to providing extraordinary service.
  • Patience, friendliness, and an outgoing personality.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic who completes job assignments in a timely fashion and then looks for the next task.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday.
  • Must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week.
  • Standing for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally.
  • Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools.
  • Push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • See product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Ability to be on your feet 8 hours a day.

  • Stocking and carrying heavy boxes (50lbs+) is part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Know and actively demonstrate the Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate charges.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Politely ask guests to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction.
  • Check acceptable identification to ensure legal sales, using best practices and professionalism.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise, using bags and boxes judiciously.
  • Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet.
  • Call for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat, and do not overstock the counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at the end of the shift and prepare the final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and in some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit.
