About The Position

Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., is seeking a Sales Engineer for the North Central/Northwest Region. This role requires an experienced representative with extensive contacts in the contractor, engineering, and utility communities, possessing recognized expertise nationwide. The Sales Engineer will significantly contribute to winning major projects by enhancing the Company’s position through improved specifications and market perception, fostering greater customer loyalty. The primary function is to support the sales team and engage with top utilities/municipalities and engineers. This role proactively promotes The McWane Way principles, values, and behaviors and lives the Compass Culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, P.E. preferred.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in a high-profile position in the utility, water, wastewater, or construction industry may be considered in lieu of an Engineering Degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and database usage.
  • Knowledge of Water and Wastewater Systems and Operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to relocate (if necessary).
  • Must be willing to travel a minimum average of 3 nights per week.
  • Previous proven sales experience in a spec-driven environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program and advise management of any deviations.
  • Call on city engineers and specifying officials throughout the country, supporting Territory Managers and independently focusing on major national firms.
  • Attain personal relationships with engineers and officials.
  • Join AWWA and attend meetings as time allows.
  • Attend National, State, and Local code meetings and conferences where beneficial.
  • Serve as the authority on all Tyler Union products, acting as the go-to individual for design, installation, and product issues concerning fittings, gaskets, restraints, and other specialty products within the engineering and code community.
  • Promote the use of domestic materials through specifications and training sessions.
  • Present programs to engineering and specifying groups, organizing Lunch & Learn programs with Territory Managers.
  • Travel with Territory Managers on engineering and specification calls to facilitate their knowledge and experience.
  • Maintain a contact listing of major engineering firms and code enforcement agencies in the region, entering this information into the CRM system.
  • Provide field support for job-site troubleshooting.
  • Assist in product complaint investigations as needed.
  • Report on projects/bids during the planning, predesign, design, and pre-bid stages.
  • Provide pertinent and assigned Sales Reports.
  • Promote products and specifications through creating, arranging, and participating in training sessions and various trade associations.
  • Create, produce, and submit papers and presentations for trade associations and groups.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Sales New Hire Training.
  • Provide new sales hires with technical training via plant experience, jobsite visits, and classroom instruction.
  • Participate in all Sales technical training programs.
  • Plan sales calls and activities at least two weeks in advance using Outlook Calendar.
  • Occasionally adjust travel plans on short notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Maintain entry accuracy and completeness of calls, activities, and pursuits into CRM.
  • Make an average of 10 sales calls per week.
  • Submit expense reports weekly.
  • Engage in prospecting, customer, and lead development.
