About The Position

This position involves welcoming customers, maintaining product knowledge, and assisting with merchandise selection. The role requires reacting quickly to customer concerns, selling merchandise, and providing outstanding customer service, which may include demonstrating technical features of products. Responsibilities also include taking periodic stock counts, participating in inventories, replenishing stock, and maintaining merchandise presentation. The Sales Clerk will advise supervisors of customer requests and handle various payment methods (cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards, gift cards) accurately using a cash register. They will maintain sales records, balance the till at the end of shifts, and account for all monies and items sold. Additionally, the role may involve performing price changes (markdowns/markups), setting up company promotions, ensuring proper display and signage, and changing item labels as needed. The Sales Clerk must follow all Loss Prevention policies, be aware of shrink, and adhere to the Alert Line. Safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements must also be followed. Working weekends is a requirement, and other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Potential to stock merchandise, assist patrons and operate a cash register which is shown by the ability to read, comprehend and explain product literature; as well as count, subtract, multiply, and divide for stocking and inventory purposes as evidenced by high school coursework, a GED or high school diploma.
  • Ability to routinely lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers, maintain product knowledge and help with the selection of merchandise.
  • React to all concerns of customers quickly with a sense of importance.
  • Sell merchandise, and provide outstanding customer service, which may require demonstration and/or explanation of technical features of items sold.
  • Take periodic stock counts and may participate in taking inventories.
  • Replenish stock and maintain merchandise in a neat and presentable condition.
  • Advise supervisor/department head of customer requests.
  • Receive cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards and gift cards in payment for merchandise and gives change accurately in the operation of cash register.
  • Maintain record of sales, at the end of shift balances till, turns in sales records, money, stamps, customer checks or charge slip and accounts for all monies and items sold.
  • May perform price changes for various departments, either markdowns or mark ups, and the setting of company promotions.
  • Ensure that price changes and company promotions are properly displayed to the customer by proper display and signage as well as changing of item labels if necessary.
  • Follow all policies regarding Loss Prevention.
  • Be aware and proactive regarding shrink and the Alert Line.
  • Follow all established safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • Work weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
