About The Position

The Sales Associate is at the heart of the Pet Care Center experience, helping pet parents find suitable products and solutions while creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment. The role involves customer service and sales, sharing product and pet care information, caring for animals in accordance with company policies, and supporting store operations and merchandising. It is suited to someone who enjoys helping others, learning about pet care, and working with a team in a fast-paced retail environment.

The position is performed in a Pet Care Center retail environment with active engagement on the sales floor. It requires frequent standing and walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting, including safely moving merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds. The role involves proximity to animals and possible exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals. Flexible availability is needed to support operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requirements

• Passion for animals and an interest in pet care.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and transactions.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
• Share accurate product and pet care information to help customers make informed choices.
• Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and solution-focused service.
• Create positive shopping experiences that build trust and customer loyalty.
• Assist customers in selecting products and services that meet their pets’ needs; educate them about products, services, and promotions.
• Support store sales and service goals.
• Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
• Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, organized, and visually appealing store and sales floor.
• Stock shelves, replenish merchandise, and support inventory integrity and stock accuracy.
• Assist with store recovery, merchandising, promotional setups, and daily operational routines.
• Collaborate with and support teammates in achieving store goals.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Perform additional assigned tasks and responsibilities.
