About The Position
As a Sales Associate, you will represent the company and its brand while helping build its reputation for valuing customers and their opinions. You will assist customers in recognizing their needs for the company’s products and services, learn about merchandise, and explain the company’s purpose in an educational, insightful, and professional manner. The role suits someone with a positive, outgoing nature who enjoys serving others and making a positive contribution to the organization. The position includes customer service, sales, maintaining store appearance, processing transactions, completing paperwork and inventory processes, and following assigned work schedules. Work is typically performed indoors, though outdoor work may be assigned depending on location. The role involves standing and moving for extended periods and may require lifting merchandise.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of products and merchandise.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and management and to use proper telephone etiquette.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to multitask while attending to customers and remain flexible to business needs.
- Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independently of direct supervision.
- Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic demeanor and a desire to provide outstanding service.
- Able to stand, move, talk, hear, reach, and grab for at least two consecutive hours; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb ladders; and lift at least 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds in some departments.
- Available to work varied hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Nice To Haves
- Retail experience is preferred but not required.
- High school graduate or equivalent is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Proactively engage with customers, ask questions, listen to their needs, and provide premier customer service.
- Direct customers to merchandise and inform them about events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card.
- Build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships and take accountability for actions and outcomes.
- Maintain store appearance and organization.
- Cross-sell and upsell products, understand the store layout, and recommend trends and promotions based on individual customer needs.
- Learn product features and current trends, and use company tools and technology to provide product specifications and knowledge.
- Use a point-of-sale system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards; handle cash and return accurate amounts to customers.
- Complete paperwork, reports, and reconciliations.
- Check in and accurately ticket merchandise, complete inventory processes, and possibly participate in periodic inventories.
- Adhere to the assigned work schedule and accurately complete work assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
