About The Position

Goodwill Industries of Akron is seeking an entry-level Sales Associate / Cashier to provide customer service to shoppers and donors and support the organization’s community mission. The associate greets customers, promotes the Elizabeth Clark Fund and Goodwill Club membership, processes purchases, operates the cash register and point-of-sale system, and completes routine business and cash-handling reports. The role also includes answering phone calls, selecting and pricing donated goods and textiles according to Goodwill quality standards, and keeping store areas neat and clean. The position calls for a friendly, reliable, customer-focused person who can work independently while contributing to a team. The schedule is flexible and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Requirements

Ability to operate a cash register, including basic math, computer, and typing skills.
Ability to count back change.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Friendly, reliable, and trustworthy demeanor.
Ability to work independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere and promoting the agency positively.

Responsibilities

Greet shoppers and donors warmly and provide customer service as the top priority.
Make customers aware of the Elizabeth Clark Fund and invite them to participate.
Encourage customers to sign up for or use their Goodwill Club membership.
Assist customers with purchases and operate the cash register and point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently.
Complete reports including donation counts, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash drawer balances.
Answer phone calls in a friendly manner and listen carefully to callers.
Select and price donated goods and textiles in accordance with Goodwill quality control standards.
Keep all store areas neat and clean.
