About The Position

As a Sales Associate at West Marine, you will provide customer service and help ensure a positive shopping experience. You will learn about customers’ needs, recommend products, support purchases and transactions, and help customers complete boating projects or prepare for time on the water. The role also involves maintaining merchandise, inventory, pricing, displays, and a clean, organized store environment. West Marine’s mission is to serve boaters with a focus on “Know More, Get More, Boat More.”

Requirements

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to listen actively and respond to customer needs.
Proven sales and customer-service abilities.
Familiarity with merchandise.
Ability to use point-of-sale systems and learn new systems quickly.
Strong attention to detail and effective time management.
Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout the retail space.
Ability to wear and communicate through a headset continuously.
Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and twist frequently.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height unassisted frequently.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous boating and/or retail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and engage with them to understand their needs through open-ended questions and active listening.
Provide product knowledge and suggestive selling, help customers select products, and direct them to the appropriate store locations.
Inform customers about available services and assist with special orders and drop-ship purchases.
Process cash, credit, and on-account transactions, returns, and register operations accurately.
Audit and tag merchandise and maintain accurate pricing, displays, and signage.
Assist with inventory management, including receiving, stocking, and replenishing merchandise.
Keep the sales floor and aisles clean, organized, and free of hazards or obstacles.
Support buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) and, as needed, buy online, ship from store processes.
Alert management to potential security or loss-prevention issues and support asset-protection standards.
Complete required training and review position standard operating procedures.
Work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
