About The Position

The purpose of this role is to sell merchandise offered by the Goodwill Store to individuals through the use of exceptional customer service, display techniques, knowledge of the quality, characteristics, and merit of the merchandise, and approved sales techniques. The Sales Associate is responsible for promoting a friendly and welcoming environment, maintaining store cleanliness and organization, processing transactions accurately, and embodying the Goodwill Mission.

Requirements

  • Must possess and consistently demonstrate the ability and willingness to utilize excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have good work habits such as acceptable attitude and punctuality.
  • Must respond appropriately to supervision.
  • Understanding of how to approach a customer.
  • Ability to demonstrate merchandise to shoppers.
  • Basic knowledge of fashion, style, color, quality, and the use of accessories.
  • Basic knowledge of household goods, merit, and purpose.
  • Awareness of the community and the buying habits of residents.
  • Ability to adapt to a potential high volume/high stress situation.
  • Adequate physical endurance to work at industrial standards.
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted, 50lbs assisted.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a friendly and welcoming environment for all customers.
  • Greet all customers positively and professionally.
  • Assist customers in finding and selecting merchandise.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and proper sizing.
  • Resolve customer concerns, complaints, and conflicts.
  • Process cash register transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Count change back to every customer and thank them for their purchase.
  • Communicate the Goodwill Mission to customers.
  • Dress appropriately according to the Goodwill dress code.
  • Work with people of all abilities.
  • Display merchandise correctly.
  • Distinguish colors for coordinating merchandise and arranging displays.
  • Inform customers about the quality, style, usefulness, and condition of items.
  • Stock clothing and wares efficiently and prepare merchandise for stock rotation.
  • Promote safe conditions for customers and staff and perform fire safety procedures.
  • Report accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions, or suspicious behavior to a supervisor.
  • Assist management with training volunteers/trainees.
  • Assist in loading/unloading the Goodwill truck.
  • Prepare daily sales reports.
  • Make daily bank deposits.
  • Stand for long periods, use hands, reach, push, or pull.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, stoop, throw, turn, and twist body.
  • Regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by management.
  • Follow policies and procedures.
  • Report unsatisfactory conditions to management.
  • Report customer complaints to management.
  • Assist management in directing and instructing helpers/trainees.
  • Keep management informed of significant events and trends.
  • Respond to customer interests and reactions, taking corrective action.
  • Be mindful of public opinion and how store operations affect it.
