About The Position

The Sales Associate sells general merchandise using professional selling techniques and works as part of a team to provide service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. At Minimarts with a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, the role may also involve opening and closing the bar, preparing and displaying products, replenishing goods, and cleaning stations and equipment. The position requires lifting up to 25 pounds for duties such as assisting customers and stocking merchandise. No experience is required; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and engage customers, assist with merchandise selections, suggest complementary items, and explain extended warranty options when applicable.
• Interact with customers and coworkers in a friendly, professional manner, follow NEX uniform standards, and support other sales team members.
• Learn merchandise features, setup, use, care, prices, and warranty coverage, and communicate product information to customers.
• Keep assigned areas stocked and merchandise neatly arranged; communicate inventory and customer feedback to supervisors and managers; participate in department meetings and share ideas for improving service and sales.
• Complete sales transactions efficiently and thank customers for their patronage.
• Perform cash register transactions, including cash, charge, check, gift certificate, and layaway transactions, accurately and according to procedures.
• Inform customers about sales events and Navy Exchange services, offer NEXCARD accounts, and explain account benefits.
• Learn and apply store policies and systems, handle returns and customer problems tactfully, and consistently apply policies to support customer satisfaction.
• Maintain awareness in assigned areas and provide customer service to help deter theft.
• Unpack, stage, and move merchandise; assist with store displays and periodic inventories; and complete related paperwork accurately.
• Participate in applicable commission and gainsharing incentive programs when eligible.
• At Minimarts with a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, open and close the bar and turn equipment on or off as appropriate.
• Prepare and display products in heated display merchandisers; replenish products, condiments, and supplies on the beverage bar.
• Time-date products stored in refrigerators at closing and maintain product quality and food integrity through cleaning and proper dating practices.
• Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures at least three times daily.
• Attend initial four-hour food safety training and annual refresher training if required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
